What to Expect at Your First Day of Training

Before You Arrive

Your enrollment coordinator will send you a welcome packet with everything you need to know before your first day. Read it. It covers:

  • Start date, time, and location — our training center is in Indianapolis (Marion County)
  • What to bring — government-issued photo ID, Social Security card, and any enrollment paperwork
  • What to wear — dress code varies by program (scrubs for healthcare, work boots for trades, business casual for office programs)
  • Parking and transit — free parking is available; IndyGo routes serve our location
  • Orientation Day

Your first day is orientation. You will not jump straight into coursework. Instead, you will:

Meet your instructor and classmates. Programs run in cohorts, so you will train with the same group throughout the program. Your instructor is an industry professional with real-world experience.

Review the student handbook. This covers attendance policies, grading, code of conduct, and grievance procedures. You will sign an acknowledgment form.

Complete enrollment paperwork. If you have not already signed your enrollment agreement, participation agreement, and FERPA consent, you will do so during orientation.

Tour the facility. You will see the classrooms, labs, and equipment you will be using. For trades programs, this includes the hands-on training area.

Set up your LMS account. You will get login credentials for the Elevate learning management system, where you will access coursework, track progress, and submit assignments.

What to Expect in Week One

After orientation, training begins. A typical week includes:

  • Classroom instruction — theory, terminology, safety protocols, and industry standards
  • Hands-on labs — working with real equipment under instructor supervision
  • LMS coursework — online modules, quizzes, and reading assignments
  • Certification prep — practice exams and study sessions for industry credentials
  • Attendance is mandatory. Most programs require 90% or higher attendance to remain in good standing.

    Support Is Available

If you hit a roadblock — financial, personal, or academic — talk to your enrollment coordinator. We connect students with:

  • Transportation assistance
  • Childcare resources
  • Emergency financial support
  • Tutoring and study groups
  • Career counseling
  • You are not doing this alone. Contact our support team if you need help at any point.
