Not every career requires a four-year degree. Many of the highest-demand occupations in Indiana can be entered after completing a short-term training program — some in as little as 4 weeks.

Here are five career paths you can start in 12 weeks or less.

1. HVAC Technician — 20 Weeks

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technicians install and repair climate control systems. Demand is year-round — heating in winter, cooling in summer.

  • Starting salary: $40,000-$55,000
  • Credentials earned: EPA 608 Universal, OSHA 30, Residential HVAC Certification
  • Funding: Workforce Ready Grant eligible (Indiana residents may pay $0)
  • 2. CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) — 4-8 Weeks

    CNAs provide direct patient care in hospitals, nursing homes, and home health settings. Indiana has a persistent shortage of CNAs, which means steady job availability.

  • Starting salary: $30,000-$38,000
  • Credentials earned: Indiana CNA certification
  • Funding: WIOA and Workforce Ready Grant eligible
  • 3. CDL (Commercial Driver License) — 4 Weeks

    CDL drivers are in demand across logistics, construction, and public transit. Training is fast and job placement rates are high.

  • Starting salary: $45,000-$65,000
  • Credentials earned: Class A or Class B CDL
  • Funding: WIOA eligible
  • 4. Phlebotomy Technician — 8 Weeks

    Phlebotomists draw blood for lab tests, transfusions, and donations. Every hospital, clinic, and lab needs them.

  • Starting salary: $32,000-$40,000
  • Credentials earned: National phlebotomy certification
  • Funding: WIOA eligible
  • 5. Medical Assistant — 12 Weeks

    Medical assistants handle both clinical and administrative tasks in doctor offices and clinics — taking vitals, scheduling, processing insurance.
