Programs aligned with industry-recognized certifications including EPA Section 608, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Security+, PTCB CPhT, Microsoft Office Specialist, OSHA 30, and Indiana state licensing requirements. Credential outcomes are issued by the respective certifying organizations.

Elevate for Humanity operates as a workforce development system coordinating training, funding, testing, and employment pathways. Program delivery may be conducted directly by Elevate or through approved training providers depending on the program.

Elevate for Humanity Career & Technical Institute is a DOL Registered Apprenticeship Sponsor, Indiana ETPL-listed workforce training provider, and Certiport Authorized Testing Center operating under 2Exclusive LLC-S. Industry certifications are issued by the respective credentialing bodies (CompTIA, NHA, EPA, NCCCO, etc.) upon passing the required exams — these are the same credentials employers hire for. Training may be fully funded for eligible participants through WIOA, Workforce Ready Grant, JRI, and approved workforce partners; eligibility is determined by the applicable agency. Elevate for Humanity Career & Technical Institute is a workforce training organization, not a degree-granting postsecondary institution under the Indiana Department of Education — our programs lead to industry certifications and employment, not academic degrees.

hvac.studyGuide.mustKnow

hvac.studyGuide.clickToReveal

1. Maximum fine for knowingly venting refrigerant?

$44,539 per day per violation (Clean Air Act)

2. What does ODP stand for?

Ozone Depletion Potential. R-12 = 1.0 (reference). R-410A = 0.

3. What does GWP stand for?

Global Warming Potential. Measured relative to CO₂ (GWP=1).

4. Recovery cylinder max fill level?

80% of water capacity. Never overfill — liquid expands with heat.

5. DOT hydrostatic retest interval?

Every 5 years. Expired = cannot be legally refilled.

6. Recovery cylinder color (DOT standard)?

Gray body, yellow top.

7. R-410A cylinder color?

Rose/pink.

8. R-22 cylinder color?

Green.

9. Who can purchase refrigerant (since 2018)?

Only EPA 608 certified technicians.

10. Difference between recovery, recycling, reclamation?

Recovery = remove from system. Recycling = clean on-site for reuse. Reclamation = process to ARI 700 purity at certified facility.

11. What gas is NEVER used to pressure test a system?

Oxygen or compressed air — explosive with refrigerant oil. Use dry nitrogen only.

12. Target vacuum level before charging?

500 microns or below. Verify with micron gauge, not manifold gauge.

13. What is a de minimis release?

Small unavoidable release when connecting/disconnecting hoses. The only legal release.

14. ASHRAE 34 safety group for R-410A?

A1 — low toxicity, non-flammable.

15. ASHRAE 34 safety group for R-32 and R-454B?

A2L — low toxicity, mildly flammable.

16. What does A2L mean?

Low toxicity (A), mildly flammable (2L). Burning velocity ≤10 cm/s.

17. How long must refrigerant records be kept?

3 years, available for EPA inspection.

18. Leak repair deadline after trigger rate exceeded?

30 days.

19. What is a purge unit on a low-pressure chiller?

Removes air and non-condensables that leak INTO the system (low-pressure systems operate below atmospheric).

20. Can recovered refrigerant be returned to the same system without reclamation?

Yes — same owner's equipment only. Different owner requires reclamation to ARI 700.
